UWC is a program that brings urban women’s issues to the forefront with workshops and a monthly newsletter. In the ever-changing welfare reform environment, UWC provides a place where women can receive assistance with their issues and concerns. Through the Job Readiness Program, which is one of many comprehensive services offered through the women’s center, women are trained for employment. Other services include case management, counseling, and training in a variety of traditional and non-traditional work skills. Job placement assistance is available for job ready women. GED classes and Pre-GED preparation classes, and a Women’s Support Group are also available. The UWC provides women 18 years of age or older with the necessary tools needed to meet their long and short-term goals.
